Porsche Taycan recalled – May suddenly stop

Porsche Taycan has been a huge success in Norway. In the course of a year and a half, around 1,600 copies of the Taycan and the family car Taycan Cross Turismo have been registered here at home – including about 50 second-hand imports.

According to Porsche, all the cars that have been sold since the start are affected by a fault that means that they can suddenly stop while driving. The car can still be steered and braked, but the traction is gone. A total of 43,000 cars will return to the workshop for an upgrade.

It was American The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) who first reported the error.

According to Porsche, the cause of the problem is a computer error in the control of the power from the high voltage battery. It should be possible to restart the car from the driver ‘s seat after it has stopped, but the same error may return later.

No accidents detected

So far, errors have been registered on 129 cars, according to Porsche. In a message, the factory says that there is no talk of accidents or injuries to people as a result of the fault. The factory considers the error to be so serious that it is not a question of updating the software “over the air”, but takes the cars back to the workshop.

Brand Experience Manager in Porsche Norway, Maren Helgestuen, says that the recall applies to all Taycan sold in Norway by model years 2020 and 2021.

– Everyone who is affected will be contacted by their Porsche Center in the not too distant future to have the software upgraded. In the meantime, they can continue to use the car as normal, says Helgestuen, who does not know if there are cases of stops in Norway. The update takes about an hour, according to Helgestuen.

A stay can break

In the EU’s recall system Rapex, this is not registered as a serious error. In any case, it is not pleasant if you are in the western field on the highway and you suddenly lose all power on the engine.

Rapex has, however registered another error on these cars, which they describe as serious: A stay in the wheel suspension can break, which can lead to poorer driving characteristics and can lead to a possible loss of control of the car. This applies to Taycan produced between 29 January 2019 and 11 May 2021.
