This Saturday, August 1, at 16.00 RKTMC “Small Guild” with sparkling 18th century music program “Piano Music of the Enlightenment” will be opened “Riga Historical Music and Dance Festival 2020”, informed the Riga Early Music Center. The concert will feature the brilliant keyboard virtuoso Varvara Manukyan from Germany and the Baroque orchestra. Collegium RIGA conducted by Maris Kupčs. The festival will run until September 3.
The Riga Historical Music and Dance Festival (RVMDF) is a much-anticipated summer event, where spectators and listeners can draw energy, regain harmony and feel in the skin of highly educated and sensitive Baroque courtiers for a while.
All concerts of the festival are played exclusively with the originals of the historical musical instruments or their copies. Thus, for example, the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, in cooperation with the Riga Early Music Center and the Riga Historical Theater and Music Society, purchased the Mozart-time hammer piano in 2018. Stein a copy of the model, which has now opened an unprecedented opportunity – to fully, in-depth and regularly acquaint Latvian listeners with the treasures of the music of the classicism era.
At the opening of the festival, in an exclusive concert open to the public for 50 people, listeners are invited to enjoy the muted but clear sound of Mozart’s piano and get to know such 18th century composers as Vincenzo Manfredini a Ignaz Josef Pleyel works, as well as one of the favorite composers of the Duchy of Courland Dorothea – Johann Gottliba Nauman.
