Floor Jansen overjoyed with Popprijs 2019: “Terribly honored”

GRONINGEN –
“This recognition is extraordinary.” Floor Jansen is overjoyed with the Popprijs 2019. In Groningen it was announced on Saturday evening that the metal singer from Goirle was the winner of this annual award. This happened during the Eurosonic Noorderslag music festival. Floor Jansen could not be there himself.

The prize had already been presented to her in Sweden, where the front woman of the Finnish metal band Nightwish lives. In a video message which was shown after the announcement, Jansen told how happy she is with the award. “There are so many fantastic musicians and artists in the Netherlands, but I got it. I have made music for twenty years and this recognition is extraordinary. “

Thanks to ‘Dear Singers’
The prize consists of a check for 10,000 euros and an image by artist Theo Mackaay. Floor Jansen has been known for more than twenty years as a singer in the metal scene, but last year she only got real fame and praise in her own country after her performance in the NPO program “Best singers of the Netherlands”.

“Floor Jansen has proven to be one of the best, most versatile singers in the Netherlands. The jury appreciates that her music ‘has a connecting force beyond the subculture”, as the ceremony said.

The Popprijs was awarded for the 34th time and is awarded annually to the band or artist who has made the most important contribution to Dutch pop music in the past year. Former winners are the Breda DJ Tiësto, rapper Ronnie Flex, Kensington, Martin Garrix, Caro Emerald and De Dijk. Other candidates for the latest version were Eurovision Song Contest winner Duncan Lawrence and Danny Vera. They all followed a course at the Rock Academy.

Brabant party in Groningen
“Noorderslag” became a Brabant party. So the main prize went to Floor Jansen from Goirle, but also during the presentation of the IJzeren Podium Animals (professional awards). Roadburn in Tilburg was proclaimed by the Association of Dutch Music Venues and Festivals (VNPF) – which organizes the professional prizes – best festival of 2019.

Furthermore, Rob Stenders from Oisterwijk received the Pop Media Prize. He is (among others) a DJ at NPO Radio. This prize has been awarded for 25 years to people who make an important contribution to pop journalism. The festival was opened by Remme. This 20-year-old singer / songwriter from Eindhoven succeeded with his band in getting the visitors silent with his first single, Get Older. He was previously supporting the Eindhoven singer Kovacs.
