Ridwan Kamil Reveals the Reasons for Becoming a Covid-19 Vaccine Volunteer

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil revealed the reason he registered as a volunteer the Covid-19 vaccine.

He registered himself as a volunteer to stem hoaxes about the Covid-19 vaccine.

Emil, his nickname, said, by joining him as a volunteer, it will be proven that the Covid-19 vaccine is safe to use. Especially if you have passed the third stage of clinical trials.

“Let us me-manage “Public communication as well and reducing hoaxes and anxieties, I, the Kapolda and the Pangdam also registered myself as volunteers from the 1600s so as to reduce unnecessary speculation and provocation,” Emil said in remarks on President Joko Widodo’s working visit via the Presidential Secretariat youtube channel, Tuesday (11/8/2020).

The hope is that the public will not hesitate to be vaccinated if the clinical trials of the three vaccines from Sinovac are successful and are mass produced.

“So usually the vaccine is three times (clinical trials). Twice tested in the producing country, the last time in a country that will buy or need the vaccine,” continued Emil.

The corona virus vaccine candidate from Sinovac Biotech Ltd China has arrived in Indonesia for clinical trials, in July.

The statement was conveyed by the Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) Teuku Faizansyah, on Sunday (19/7/2020).

Furthermore, the vaccine from the Chinese company has been submitted to PT Bio Farma for clinical testing.

“Yes, it arrived on Sunday. It has been submitted to Bio Farma,” said Faizasyah when confirmed by Kompas.com, Monday (20/7/2020).

However, Indonesia is not the only country that is testing Sinovac’s Covid-19 vaccine candidate.

Other countries that are also clinically tested are Bangladesh and Brazil.
