Riccardo Scamarcio Opens Up About Childhood and Family in New Interview

At the cinema, in the film “Race for glory”, released on Thursday 14 March and of which he is an actor and producer, Riccardo Scamarcio plays Cesare Fiorio, team boss of Lancia, who led to an epic victory against the rivals of Audi, in the 1983 World Rally Championship. When he was 12 years old, however, he secretly took his father’s car from his grandmother and smashed it, ending up against the wall. The actor told it, guest of Silvia Toffanin on Verissimo. «I was 12 years old, I was convinced I knew how to drive, I knew the clutch and accelerator thing. Then I actually realized it was a little more complicated,” he explained. Her grandmother, with whom she was staying at the time “because my parents were on holiday, sat down on the sofa as if someone had died and I got a fever from guilt”.
After all, Scamarcio had a happy childhood and adolescence (“I was a very loved child”), but one in which there was no shortage of reckless undertakings. “I was a restless child, I had a lot of energy and staying at school, sitting for five hours, made me very tired. I was hyperactive and I still am” he said, recalling how the discovery of the theatre, at 15 years old, changed his life: “Cinema, theater saved me from the fact that I could have perhaps taken the wrong paths. I was a beautiful brat.” His mother went so far as to have him followed by a private investigator. “I didn’t know I was being followed, but I lost it. He called my mother and told her: “your son drives cars very well” ». Today Scamarcio has put aside excesses, also for the love of his daughter Emily, 3 and a half years old, born from the relationship with the English manager, Angharad Wood (he is now linked to the actress Benedetta Porcaroli). Emily is «Gorgeous, smart, responsible, reckless and determined. You have to learn from the children”, explained Scamarcio, who is also very close to his mother Irene Petrafesa, a painter, and to her Apulian roots. His father Emilio passed away after an illness that lasted a year. “I had an excellent relationship with my father, but there was a certain modesty with us, an old-fashioned man, who taught me honesty in an obsessive way. I was by his side until the end and it was the strongest experience of my life.” Death is a phase of life « There are cycles in life…you have to be humanly ready for all the phases and you have to have the ability to recognize the important things » added the actor, explaining that he is a person « with my feet firmly rooted in my roots, but also a dreamer. I am ambitious, but also a simple and direct person. Being an actor you need to experience real situations. This is why I defend my private life. Otherwise, what will I tell on stage? » In the film there is a cameo by Lapo Elkann, who meets his grandfather Gianni. “A spontaneous sympathy was born with Lapo” concludes Scamarcio. In the film we often talk about scary things. What are his characteristics? “A few things, perhaps death. But we have a way in life to exorcise it with love. So love, love each other” he exhorts the studio audience.
