Riau Islands Health Bureau Asks Residents To Be Vigilant About DHF – ANTARA News Riau Archipelago

Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (ANTARA) – The Riau Islands Provincial Health Bureau has asked residents to be aware of the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) by preventing their homes and surroundings from becoming breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Riau Islands Health Bureau Chief Muhammad Bisri in Tanjungpinang on Sunday said that the number of DHF sufferers in 2022 will increase compared to 2021. From January 2022 till now the number of DHF sufferers is about 2,000 people.

“The death rate is also high, though not as high as it is in 2021,” Bisri said.

According to him, the highest number of dengue patients were in Batam, with around 830 people, Karimun regency with 750 people, and Tanjungpinang city with 380 people. The number of DHF patients who died in Batam was six people, four people in Karimun and three people in Tanjungpinang.

Meanwhile, the number of DHF patients in the other four districts did not reach 100 people per area, as there were 88 people in Lingga and 77 people in Bintan.

“Let’s protect ourselves and our sons and daughters from dengue,” he said.

Characteristics of a person infected with DHF virus are body temperature reaching 39-40 degrees Celsius, bleeding gums, nosebleed, skin rashes, frequent vomiting, lack of appetite, back of eyes pain, muscle and joint pain and headache.

Bintan Gama health bureau chief AF Isnaen said dengue can be prevented by implementing 3M plus to cover the possibility of the larvae reproducing in mosquitoes. The 3M method is about draining water-filled containers, sealing water tanks, and using used goods that have economic value.

While plus is an additional activity to prevent the larvae and mosquitoes from breeding, such as raising fish that eat mosquito larvae, using mosquito repellent, installing mosquito nets on windows and ventilation, working together to clean the environment.

In addition to checking water tanks, store used clothing in closed containers, apply larvicides to hard-to-drain water tanks, repair drains and gutters that aren’t smooth, and plant mosquito repellent plants.

“The larvae monitor plays a strategic role in socializing 3M plus and encouraging residents to adopt a clean lifestyle so that their home and home environment does not become a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” he said.
