The level of COVID-19 in Indonesia is said to be ‘down’ from the third pandemic hyperendemi, not endemic. There are various factors that cause Indonesia to experience a hyperendemic.
One of them is the transmission of COVID-19 cases is still high. The average positivity rate is still above 20 percent, far from the World Health Organization (WHO) standard of 5 percent.
“If only the WHO would revoke the pandemic after evaluating its impact on the world in various continents and countries, Indonesia has the potential to happen hyperendemi yes,” said the Expert Board of the Indonesian Public Health Experts Association (IAKMI) Hermawan Saputra.
Explained by Hermawan, hyperendemic means a disease that will persist with a high risk status, especially since the drugs and vaccines have not been found. Indonesia has not been able to independently both in terms of facilities and vaccines.

As a result, a region hyperendemi shows a relatively low incidence rate but at the same time poses a high risk of infection for people who come to the area.
Hyperendemic areas are defined as areas with seasonally high levels of endemicity where immunity does not prevent disease effects for all age groups.
