Rhône. Demography: in Lyon, growth is slowing down

Between 2008 and 2013, the city had gained more than 25,000 inhabitants, a growth of 1.1% on average each year. Since 2013, growth has been limited to 0.7% with 22,000 additional residents.

The arrondissements do not follow the same speed curves. There are those who have the wind in their sails: the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9the have all recorded growth equal to or greater than 0.8% per year on average since 2013. The third, the most populous in the city with some 100,000 residents, is still growing at a rate of 0.6% per year.

On the other hand, it was dead calm for the 1st and the 2nd, which rose by 0.2 and 0.3% respectively over the same period. For the 4e , which on the other hand sees its population decrease by 0.1% per year on average, we cannot speak of a shipwreck but undoubtedly of a side effect: the prices of immobilizing it discourage young families, the district keeps its inhabitants… who are aging in apartments saturated with mezzanines.
