Rezekne County Council will continue to be chaired by Monvids Schwartz Press release

October 1, 2021.

The information was prepared by Madara Bērtiņa, Rēzekne municipality public relations specialist.

On Friday, October 1, all 19 newly elected deputies of Rēzekne County Council attended the first council meeting in person. Congratulating the deputies on their mandate, Ilona Turka, Chairwoman of the Rezekne Municipal Electoral Commission, called for the next four years to make decisions that, looking back, would say that they were smart, courageous and far-sighted: who expect you to take active actions and decisions that will increase people’s well-being and improve their daily lives. “

The agenda of the first meeting included the election of the chairman and deputy chairman of the council. From among the deputies, two candidates were nominated for the candidacy of the Chairman of the Council – Monvīds Švarcs (JV / KP / LP) and Kaspars Melnis (ZZS). Monvīds Švarcs, the long-term head of Rēzekne region, was elected as the chairman of the council with 13 votes in favor.

Erika Teirumnieks and Jekaterina Ivanova were nominated for the position of the Deputy Chairman of the County Council. Erika Teirumnieks, Dean of the Rezekne Academy of Technology, has been elected Deputy Chairman with 13 votes in favor.

Since the establishment of Rēzekne municipality in 2009, there has never been a division in position or opposition in the county council – all former council deputies worked at one common table, regardless of political affiliation. In these elections, for the first time in Rēzekne region, there is a coalition of five parties, while “Sadarba” will work in the opposition.

“Contradictions drive development,” addressing the audience, the chairman of Rēzekne district council Monvīds Švarcs emphasized. “May we succeed in provoking each other to discuss problems and seek the best solutions, putting aside political ambition but bringing conscience and mutual respect to the forefront.”

In all the candidate programs, which the citizens could get acquainted with before the elections, four main works crystallized: efficient, open municipal administration; citizen involvement; support for entrepreneurship and work with social risk groups. “Of course, it is good for each elected deputy to stand up for the area closest to him or her or for the parish where he or she has received the most votes, but our task is to work and solve problems that are relevant to the whole region and everyone,” Monvīds Švarcs called.

“The priority is the person,” stressed the newly elected deputy chairman of the council Erika Teirumnieks. “We are all from Rēzekne region, so we know people’s needs and priorities well. Our people deserve the best, so I hope that by working together we will be able to achieve a lot. So that we can support people who need a municipal shoulder. Putting our heads together , we can do great things. “

Meetings of Rezekne County Council will take place on the first and third Thursday of each month, while meetings of standing committees will take place on the second and fourth Thursday. Until any additional epidemiological constraints emerge, council meetings are scheduled to be held in person (with Covid certificates or tests). Already next Thursday, October 7, it is planned to consider the issue of establishment of five standing committees and the distribution of deputies in them.
