Cancer is the second most common cause of death in Germany. But the therapies are getting better and better, they extend the lives of patients or can even heal.
Immunotherapy has been successful in treating black skin cancer, leukemia and tumors in the lungs, breasts and kidneys. Instead of attacking the cancer cells directly like chemotherapy and radiation therapy, immunotherapy supports the body’s own defenses to fight the cancer cells. Or it changes the patient’s immune cells so that they attack the cancer cells.
