For some this place was a wart, for others it is the historic place where they grew up. In any case, and despite divergent opinions, it remains one of the symbols of the city of Colomiers. Les Fenassiers is above all a district with a history. In 1960, the buildings were erected to accommodate returnees from Algeria.
Over the decades, the town expanded, other residences emerged in Colomiers, and Fenassiers began to age. “It has suffered the wear and tear of time,” recalls Karine Traval-Michelet, mayor of Blagnac. I remember that some residents put umbrellas in the kitchens because there was so much water damage.”

400 new housing units
The place became dilapidated, the accommodation was very poorly insulated. Delinquency was also a scourge. In 2010, the city of Colomiers launched an urban renovation project with the aim of revitalizing the space and providing greater comfort to residents. Public meetings with residents and various studies were carried out.

“What I remember is that we worked in close collaboration with the residents from start to finish,” recalls the mayor of Colomiers. After several years of studies, consultations and work, the Fenassiers district is now completely renovated. Today, it has more than 400 new housing units, better suited to the needs of residents.
