Reviews are not for democratic culture

If the majority of the Würzburg district council decides how they have decided and voted, then these are not “political intrigues”, as the commentator of the Main Post on May 12 states on page 23. This is the legitimate creative power of the majority of a municipal collegiate body, which, in the event of the election of the deputy district administrator in 2020, could not be organized in the way that was organized in 2014 by Karen Heussner, among others.

If the interested reader also follows the further contribution of this day on page 28 about the election of the deputy mayors in Thüngersheim, he will find that the majority of the Greens and citizens’ movement in the local council worked much better. As a result of an obvious agreement, this legitimate majority in Thüngersheim first elected Ms. Heussner from the Greens to the second mayor and then Veronika Wegner from the Citizens’ Movement to the third mayor, although in the sense of “factual policy” there was definitely a valid alternative from the free voters Has.

I would like to expressly emphasize that I understand that parties and political groups in municipal councils and district councils coordinate and look for majorities that, in terms of personnel and content, are an expression of the democratic system in which majorities decide. Depending on the majority, very different groups and basic attitudes benefit in different municipalities, which of course also exist in local politics, which is not per se “politically neutral”. I therefore accept these majorities and the associated personnel decisions.

What bothers me in particular about the “standpoint” of Thomas Fritz on page 23 is the assessment as a “political intrigue”, which I cannot just leave as it is. In a larger context of the Main Post articles, this gives the impression that only agreements in favor of the Greens are not an intrigue. If you see the world and legitimate majority decisions primarily through the respective party glasses, this moralizing assessment of the recent district council decision in terms of district administrator may be understandable. However, such assessments do not serve the democratic culture and acceptance of legitimate majority decisions. They are simply superfluous!
