Review: Toyota C-HR – A Modern and Stylish Car with Impressive Interior and Plug-In Hybrid Option

You will probably recognize that in the case of the C-HR model, Toyota was not really afraid of this. After all, the concept that she presented last year is minimally different from the production car. And it must be recognized that the result is worth it. For a long time, I have not liked any car at first sight as much as the C-HR. It’s very, very expressive, but it doesn’t seem overcombined or overdecorated in the first place, it’s a really nice car. We’ll see how the eccentric exterior will stand the test of time so that it doesn’t look too fast… But as I wrote a few lines above, it’s not overpaid and elaborate, I’d rather bet that even after years, the second generation Toyota C-HR will still look good.

In the interior, a steamer ahead of its predecessor

In some areas, Toyota is very… cautious, even downright conservative. We also wrote for a long time about infotainments that lag behind the latest competition in terms of graphics and functions. Currently, I spend most of my time in the Corolla Cross, which – although it is still a novelty – is an example of an uncompromisingly non-conflicting approach.

Toyota C-HR Prologue. That is, the concept that preceded the serial C-HR. The production version hasn’t changed much, has it?

The new C-HR is different. I would say that the two mentioned Toyotas must be at least ten years apart. The instrument panel and infotainment display will offer a diagonal of up to 12.3 inches, the C-HR supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and in time we will also see the function of a digital key and remote control via mobile phone. If you want to add these functions to your already purchased C-HR, thanks to Over the Air updates, this will not be a problem.

Finally, I highly praise the contemporary, modern and overall good graphics, I give even more points for the preservation of a separate panel with ventilation control, which has also been greatly improved in terms of design and processing.

The infotainment display can be up to 12.3 inches, the graphics finally look modern. The ventilation control still has its own panel!

Toyota puts a lot of emphasis on lighting the rear part of the interior – this was one of the predecessor’s biggest weaknesses. There is now a better view towards the rear, and thanks to the panoramic glass roof with an area of almost a square meter, there should really be more light inside. I tried it, we also had the previous model for comparison. There has been an improvement, but the Toyota C-HR is not at all a model of airiness. But I had enough legroom.

Even to the panoramic roof. It should reflect infrared rays in the summer and retain heat in the winter. There is no need for blinds, which benefits the overhead space. And it’s a fact that with a height of 181 cm, I only touched the ceiling when I was unnaturally straight. Panorama is basically only available in the Executive Premiere Edition equipment, otherwise it is part of the VIP package for 70,000 CZK, for the GR Sport Premiere Edition version you can pay extra separately, prepare fifteen thousand.

The panoramic roof has an area of almost one square meter, which significantly helps to illuminate the interior. The roller blind is said not to be needed, the special glass does not transmit infrared rays, so it should retain heat in the winter.

There is also a plug-in hybrid

Of course, you can only buy the new Toyota C-HR with a hybrid, the default is the 18-liter with a system output of 103 kW, the two-liter version improves to 145 kW, which is also available with all-wheel drive (implemented by the rear electric motor with a power of 33 hp). The highlight is the plug-in hybrid version with a system output of 164 kW, which should be able to cover less than seventy kilometers purely on electricity (the battery has a capacity of 13.6 kWh). However, we will have to wait until March for the plug-in, the other engines will arrive at the end of the year.

In action from the start

The basic price tag for the 18-liter hybrid of CZK 859,900 is not exactly attractive, but Toyota is offering a blanket discount on the new C-HR right from the start of sales. And not negligible, you can deduct 125,000 CZK from the price list amounts. Thus, you will pay a significantly more favorable 734,900 CZK for an eighteen thousand, thanks to the purchase bonus of another thirty five thousand you will already reach under seven hundred. You will pay at least CZK 864,900 for a two-liter, a four-wheeler costs CZK 924,900 (in both cases, of course, you can also deduct the purchase bonus). And a plug-in hybrid? It will no longer fit under a million even with both bonuses – after deducting both discounts, prepare at least CZK 1,039,900.

You don’t necessarily have to wait until the end of the year for the new Toyota C-HR, the Toyota BZ Road Show starts in mid-September and will last until the end of November. And Garáž.cz will be there!
