The duet “Eridana” is a couple who have been making music together for a long time, both on stage and in life, Iveta Baumane and Roberts Pēterson, who announced themselves with this name last May. “
“We have a special and close stone, which has also been a source of inspiration, sitting on which several songs have been written,” explained the members of the duo with this unusual name. This stone is said to be found in the courtyard of Iveta’s parents’ house, on the banks of the Daugava.
“Historians say that in ancient times Daugava was also called Eridana. We believe that this magical and historical name will bring good luck and will serve as a strong talisman in our musical flight.”
Although “Tagad, kieti ud vašt” is the duo’s debut album, both are not newcomers to the Latvian music scene. Iveta once sang as choirs for a whole range of well-known musicians in Latvia, from Don and Jānis Stībels to the legendary Viktor Lapčenoks, participated in various musical projects, while ten years ago she blossomed in the national selection competitions of the Eurovision Song Contest – initially in a creative tandem with the bassist of “Prāta Vētras” Ingar Viļumas, but achieved the most success in this field in a duet with Ivo Grīsniņu-Grīsli, when he reached the final with the song “Tic Tac” (he was in the 2009). In recent years, she has made her mark as a singer and violinist on Ainārs Major’s expert project “ElektroFolk”, where she apparently got close to Robert Pēterson, who is also a part of it, both as a singer and as a guitarist. This guy also clearly announced himself in the Eurovision selection – ten years ago, when he was only 16 or 17, but after the young Ventspils proved himself several times in this competition, he was also in the “Music Bank” and .. I don’t remember where anymore, just everywhere not yet.
The debut album “Eridanas” has eight songs. “The album is musically colored and is permeated by various stories and reflections on current issues, reflections on really important things: these are the people and events that surround us, mutual relationships, love, experiences, small joys of life that bring a feeling of happiness, but above all to be in the moment – now, here and now “, so say the musicians themselves.
PAR. “Eridana” is a very nice and compatible duo, both visually and musically. With such simple and upbeat pop songs with a slight rock flavor, they probably open the door to many small concerts and corporate events in size and venue. The most pleasant surprise of this album is the song “No sevis neabjekt” – energetic pop rock with “pop / dance” elements and a recitative inserted in Iveta’s performance. On the other hand, the best song (and also the most beautiful) – “Broken lives” with a performance on the cello by Valters Pučes. The vocal talents of both are indisputable, this is a fact.
VERSUS. The biggest sin of this duo is that they play music for Latvian pop music in the usual style, which could be called “for everyone and for nobody” – you can listen to it, the album does not disturb, but unfortunately it does not create any interest.
