Returnal update adds ability to save run in between – Gaming – News

Housemarque has announced the 2.0 update of the roguelite shooter Returnal. This update adds a photo mode and the much requested option to save runs in between. The update is available immediately.

The ‘Pause Cycle’ option makes it possible to exit the game in the middle of a run and turn off the console without losing progression. When the game is restarted later, the player can continue from the same point. Developer Housemarque says he understood how popular that option is among players. However, there are some limitations to the new feature. That’s not how it works in the middle of a boss fight, during cutscenes, during the first person sections or during ‘intense combat’. Also, the save point is deleted immediately once it is loaded. According to the developer, this is done to save scumming to prevent.

Runs in Returnal can take hours and previously had to be completed in one go. If players wanted to pause, the PS5 had to stay on and the game couldn’t be closed. Including in the review on Tweakers this was criticized.

The 2.0 update also includes a photo mode. Players can activate it by pausing the game at any time and choosing the Photography option. Photo mode allows them to take screenshots of the game and apply all kinds of filters and frames.

Returnal is a PS5exclusive, which was released by Sony in May. The game is a roguelite-type sci-fi shooter, which means that when players die in the game, they have to start all over again and lose most of the items and upgrades. The game’s developer, Housemarque, has been since June part of Sony’s PlayStation Studios.
