Retiring firefighter ignores stop sign

Sun 19 February 2023 00:00

THE WESTEREEN – After 25 years, Jordi van Kammen leaves the fire brigade of De Westereen. He and his wife and children are moving to Beetsterzwaag in connection with their work. There he also starts working for the fire brigade of Beetsterzwaag.

Jordi’s fire brigade colleagues had devised a last turnout for him on Saturday afternoon to lure him to the barracks. A report came in of an incident at Wylpaed West in Twijzelerheide.

Jordi’s colleagues kept an eye on Jordi’s route to the barracks. A police car then gave him a stop sign on the way to the barracks. He ignored this because he had to go to the barracks. When he arrived at the barracks, he was just too late and the fire truck was just leaving.

After a small round, the fire truck came back to the barracks and Jordi looked surprised at what happened to him. Everything turned out to be staged.

In the barracks, Jordi was told a few words of thanks and he was handed the name tag of Beetsterzwaag and the fire brigade pager. After the handovers, there was a chasing in the barracks with a snack and drink, which was then continued later in the evening on the corps evening in the Hossebos in De Westereen.
