Many reactions are caused by the two memoranda of cooperation between Greece and the USA that were voted in the Parliament by ND and PASOK and provide for the deployment of Greek soldiers to the American army, with one signature!
The government acts as a “willing ally”, as Kyriakos Mitsotakis had said, without negotiating anything in relations with the US, turning the country into a colony.
The explanations given by the Ministry of Defense do not even convince the military, as can be seen from the objections raised by uniformed and retired soldiers. The lengthy announcement of the Panhellenic Federation of Retired Officers is typical.

Before the meeting of European leaders convened on February 26, 2024 in Paris by the French President Mr. Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, claimed that many countries – members of NATO and the European Union are considering the possibility of sending soldiers to Ukraine , on a bilateral basis.
During the aforementioned meeting (on February 26, 2024), the President of France, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, stated that the sending of Western ground forces to Ukraine cannot be ruled out.
On the same day (February 26, 2024) the Prime Minister of the Country, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, stated that there is no question of sending European forces or NATO inside Ukraine, this question does not exist for the majority of my counterparts.
On March 4, 2024, it was reported that the French Chief of Defense Staff, General Thierry Bourgard, had taken a bold step by writing to his counterparts across NATO, proposing the formation of a “coalition of the willing” to deploy troops to Ukraine.
It seems that all resistances and objections have been overcome and the vehicle has been found that may supply everywhere in the Ecumenical (initially in Europe it is formulated, but we said: “the principle is half of everything”) troops under the leadership of the USA. For what reason and for what purpose? Who and what will they serve? Rhetorical questions.
In the relevant memorandum, which was voted by a majority by the parliamentarians in the relevant Standing Committee on Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament, on March 11, 2024 and which is submitted for a vote in the BtE, it is provided that military personnel of the Hellenic Armed Forces may be placed in units of the US Army in Europe to meet operational needs, under the following, among others, terms and conditions:
- the Parent Contracting Party (incl. Greece) shall be responsible for all costs and expenses of seconded Greek Defense personnel, which shall include all basic pay, wages and allowances, including daily allowances, transport/travel, subsistence, allowance for loss or damage to personal belongings, as regards the preparation and shipment of the body and funeral expenses, the transport or storage of household goods, repatriation and temporary official duties,
- personnel will be under the direction and operational control of the Commander of the Host Party (n. US);
the Host Party (not US) will determine the working hours of seconded Greek Defense personnel,
the seconded Greek Defense personnel shall not exercise disciplinary authority over the military or civilian personnel of the Host Party (in US); - each Contracting Party shall waive all its claims, against the other Contracting Party and respectively against the military members and civil servants of the other Contracting Party, for injury or death of a military member or civil servant of the ceding Contracting Party if the event took place during the performance of the prescribed duties of the military member or civil servant,
- each Contracting Party shall not seek indemnification from the other Contracting Party for third party claims by other persons or entities for damage, loss, injury or death resulting from acts or omissions of military members or civil servants of the Parent Contracting Party .
From the citation of the above, the main question that arises is: what is the job of the Greek military outside the borders and especially in the army of the United States of America, for military operations that have been undertaken or will be undertaken (?) in the future by the US army in any part of Europe, for the slaughter of other peoples?
Greek military personnel have already been pushed, under the government’s responsibility, into the “mouth of the wolf” in the Red Sea, undertaking a dangerous war mission with the HYDRA aircraft carrier, as the Minister of National Defense himself, Mr. Nikos Dendias, has confessed many times. A mission that does not serve our national interests at all. Why is the government co-signing further involvement of military personnel in military operations? On 13.3.2024, the F/G HYDRA fired a cannon at two (2) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Having the conviction that our Federation expresses the concerns of one of our active colleagues, who day by day see the government involving them in dangerous war games, and on the other of the Greek people who see their government making the country of, our Greece, more and more the target of retaliation, we must react, protest strongly and demand from all members of the Greek parliament to rise to the occasion and vote against the relevant cooperation memorandum, defending the interests of the Greek people.
We will follow the developments on the matter and in the event that the relevant cooperation memorandum is passed, for the country’s direct participation in military operations under the US in Europe, we will inform the Greek people who and which MPs voted in favor.
