The wreckage was found on the coast four to five kilometers from the airport at Palana, which was the destination of the trip, the country’s aviation authorities say, according to Ria. Authorities say the terrain makes the search difficult.
“The place where the plane crashed into the sea appears to have been determined,” a source in the rescue services told the news agency shortly before the discovery of parts was confirmed.
So far, there are no signs that anyone has survived the accident. There were two minors among the two passengers on board. The Antonov An-26 aircraft had a crew of six.
The Ministry of Emergency Management previously confirmed that contact with the aircraft was broken on Tuesday. The plane was on its way from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Palana when it disappeared a short mile before it arrived.
The Kamchatka Peninsula is located on the Pacific coast east of Russian Siberia.
