Respecting the European rules, Apple will release an iPhone with a USB C port

Previously, the European Parliament had established USB Type-C as a common charging standard in the European Union.

Therefore, all mobile devices with power delivery up to 100W including phones, tablets and headsetwhich is sold there, is expected to be equipped with a USB-C charging port by the end of 2024.

Laptops are required to switch to USB-C in spring 2026. Meanwhile, products already on the market before that deadline will not be affected by the decision.

The goal is also to eliminate the technological “lock-in”, which keeps users tied to a single format defined by the manufacturer.

Vote also placed its hopes on support for fast charging, where the device could offer at least 18W of USB-C power specifications.

The European Union has long demanded a common charger and has helped reduce the types of connectors, pushing for standards like micro-USB.

However, the European Union argues that voluntary efforts never lead to tangible results for users. This led to a formal legislative proposal, in September 2021.
