Resistance: A Love Story of Two Musicians Supporting Ukraine

The two met in 2022, starting work on the song “Resistance” to support the Ukrainians in the war and protest against the aggression started by Russia.

“I was born in Kyiv, but Katrina was born in Riga. My mother is Ukrainian and my father is Latvian, while Katrina’s mother is Latvian and her father is Ukrainian. In the past, Katrina often went to Kyiv, but I often went to Riga,” reveals Edgars.

“Due to the war, I moved with my family from Kyiv to my second homeland, Latvia. I was offered to participate in the creation of the song “Resistance” by singing a few lines, even though I am not a singer.

Probably, if it wasn’t for the song “Resistance”, we wouldn’t have met at all,” says Edgars.

Thanks to this recording, the couple had to meet more and more often, and Katrina found out that Edgars is also a producer.

Both appeared in public for the first time last May, receiving the Order of the Three Stars.

As is known, Gupalo was previously in a relationship with pianist Andrei Osokina for 10 years.

This year, Gupalo participated in the Latvian Television (LTV) song contest “Supernova”, performing the song “The Cat’s Song”.
