The residents are furious because they claim to be a lot of nuisance from overcrowded reception camps, such as the notorious camp Moria on Lesvos. Last week it regularly came to fights with the riot police. The resistance of the residents was so great that the police eventually responded pulled back.
Today residents of Lesvos also blocked the access roads to Moria. Around 300 migrants were forced to be taken care of in a closed part of the port of the capital Mytilini.
The Greek government has convened a crisis meeting on the situation at the borders. Camp in the northeast of the country more than 10,000 migrants in no man’s land, after they had been able to pass through the Turkish border guards unhindered.
The government is determined not to admit these migrants, but some managed to cross the Evros border river.
