Gameplay Resident Evil 3: Our comparison between the original and the video remake

21 years after its release on the very first PlayStation, Resident Evil 3 returns to our current machines with a version that takes some distance from the original game. Nevertheless, winks and other similarities are scattered throughout the epic. So that you can see the evolution, we offer this video putting passages from the 1999 edition alongside that of 2020.

Watch out, spoilers!

Video script

One of the first characters that Jill meets on his journey is Dario. As in the 1999 version, the guy prefers to lock himself in a container rather than trying to escape. Despite the heroine’s recommendations, the character prefers to lock himself in and invites Jill to look elsewhere. Something not to cry about his fatal destiny.

Speaking of a fatal fate, Brad Vickers is also back in this remake. If he is also bitten by a zombie in the bar, we notice several changes. Already, he informed Jill by phone, at the very beginning of the adventure, that the Nemesis was after him. Then, it is no longer the Tyrant who kills him outside the police station, but the player, who then plays Carlos, in order to help Marvin.

Like the episode released on the first PlayStation, the police station is still there, except that it is Carlos who has the misfortune to survey it. The goal is always to return to the S.T.A.R.S. Like the remake of Resident Evil 2, Carlos will have to visit the locker room and even face a Licker. Constant of this third episode of the series, the Nemesis chases Jill through the streets of Raccoon City. However, the colossus has additional powers to better investigate the recruit of S.T.A.R.S. It is still possible to directly confront the creature, or to flee from it, even if the system of choice has disappeared.

Drain Deimos lurk around the power station. They can now poison Jill and are able to pass through very tight places. In a word, they are gaining in dangerousness. As in the original game, there are many cutscenes in the subway train with members of the U.B.C.S. Mickhail, who is decidedly much classier in the remake, is still injured. Its role is largely unchanged, and the fate that awaits it is the same as that of the 1999 version.

Another room, same atmosphere. The Raccoon City hospital is still home to Hunter Beta, which we will have to face with Carlos. The goal of the game is always to find a cure for Jill, except that here the sequence ends on a 100% action scene where waves of zombies try to enter the room of the infected youngster. Do not look for the belfry, the developers preferred to remove it from this version, as well as some creatures from the bestiary.

Resident Evil 3 (2020), developped by Capcom, is available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
