Researchers note the Earth is getting dimmer, the real impact of climate change

Tutwuri.id – The huge impact of Earth’s climate change is increasingly being felt. This is like the results of research conducted by researchers who note that the Earth is getting dimmer.

In research published in Geophysical Research Letters, the researchers measured the level of earthshine, or Earth’s rays.

This is the light that is reflected from the earth to illuminate the surface of the moon as well as the results of measurements of satellite imagery.

In a series of observations, the researchers revealed that our planet is getting dimmer and there has been a significant decrease in Earth’s reflectance or albedo in at least the last two decades.

The results of this study were compiled from data entered in the Big Bear Solar Observatory using a special telescope that has been used to view the moon in the last two decades.

At least, the researchers have managed to collect data on 800 nights taken from 1998 to 2017 with the results as above.

At least in the last 20 years, the earth gradually dimmed half a watt per square meter and the peak of the decline occurred in the last three years of observation.

Please note, the Earth at least reflects about 30 percent of the incoming sunlight, so if you use the reference data above, it is found that the earth has decreased by 0.5 percent.

According to Phlip Goode, an expert from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, this decrease in albedo is a surprising thing.

“This drop in albedo came as a surprise to us when we analyzed data for the last three years after 17 years of flat albedo,” said Phlip.

Impact of Global Warming and Climate Change

The researchers suspect that the decrease in albedo or the dimming of the earth is triggered by the thinning of the initial low over the Pacific Ocean.

From the incoming data, it is known that low clouds in the Pacific ocean are getting lower. These clouds are also one of the components of the earth that reflect sunlight.

In addition, the impact of global warming and changes in the earth’s climate are also one of the triggers where solar energy captured by the sun is in the earth’s atmosphere and oceans.
