“I received a message today that one of the eagles was sitting quite low,” says Vanmechelen. “A Dutch team and the Animal Ambulance, with whom we have been in contact for quite some time, immediately turned out and were able to catch the eagle.”
At the moment, the white-tailed eagle is still in quarantine so that veterinarians can examine the bird’s condition. “The animal has wandered around for a long time and is of course weakened, so we have to wait and see what is possible in the coming days,” said Vanmechelen, who hopes that the animal will be back in Genk “this or next week”.
