Washington (Reuters) – The nomination party convention for U.S. President Donald Trump as a candidate for the November 3 election is now scheduled to take place on a smaller scale in the state of North Carolina.
Republican events in Jacksonville, Florida, scheduled for August, have been canceled, Trump announced on Thursday (local time) at a press conference at the White House. “It’s not the right time for a large gathering,” he said of the rising corona numbers in Florida, which has been hit hardest by the plague. He had therefore ordered to cancel the event “to protect the American people”.
He would give his nomination speech in a “different form”. He didn’t name a place. The entire election party was originally supposed to be held in North Carolina. The governor there, however, had refused to weaken health protection requirements. The Republicans then relocated most of the event planned for August 24-27 to Jacksonville. Florida has had nearly 390,000 infections and more than 5,600 deaths, according to a Reuters count.
Republican Trump has to assert himself against his democratic challenger Joe Biden in the presidential election. According to numerous surveys, this is currently leading the way in favor of voters.
