Storm Elsa, which continues on its way to Florida, hit New York with full force, where sections of freeway have in places become rivers.

The Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx was flooded by rains Thursday afternoon.
Several photos and videos posted on social networks show automobiles submerged in water, and lines of vehicles avoiding water by passing through the only lanes that can still be used.
A city police truck was mobilized to rescue motorists whose car was trapped.
A severe thunderstorm warning went into effect Thursday at 9 p.m., and is expected to last until noon the next day, as the storm is about to pass through the city, a meteorologist reports to the New York Post.
