The South African newspaper “citizen” revealed Sundowns coach, Betsu Musimani, refusing to renew his contract with the club during the current period, pointing to the interest of Al-Ahly in the coach.
The Sundowns administration is trying to open negotiations with the South African coach, but the latter has not yet determined his position because of his objection to some policies of the Board of Directors.
“Citizen” said, according to a source close to the club, that the coach wants to determine the deals related to the team, but the Sundowns board of directors interferes with the selection of players, which Musimani does not like.
She added that the 55-year-old was previously associated with the training of Al-Ahly of Egypt, pointing out that South Africa was the focus of Zamalek’s attention in 2016, but Betsu chose to continue with the Sundowns.
For its part, the “Soccer 24” newspaper quoted Betsu’s statements in which he said: “The negotiations are still going on, it is a matter of principle, not of money.”
The newspaper also drew attention to Al-Ahly contracting the 2016 CAF Champions League winner, confirming that there is interest from the Egyptian side in the coach.
Musimani took over the Sundowns in December 2012/2013 and led the team to the 2016 Champions League crown after beating Zamalek 3-1 in the first leg of the home and away match.
It is worth noting that Sundowns won its seat this season in the Champions League as the first group three, and is likely to meet Zamalek, Al-Ahly or Moroccan Raja in the quarter-finals.
