Renowned Syrian Artist Thanaa Debsi Dies at 83 – Syrian Artists Syndicate Mourns her Passing

Yesterday evening, Tuesday evening, the Syrian artist Thanaa Debsi died, at the age of 83, after suffering from illness.

The Syrian Artists Syndicate mourned the artist Thanaa Debsi in a post on her Facebook account, which said, “The Damascus branch of the Artists Syndicate mourns the death of our colleague, the distinguished artist, Thanaa Debsi.”

She added: “We will inform you later of the date of the funeral and burial and the date of condolence. We belong to God and to Him we shall return.”

The late artist was born in 1941, from the city of Aleppo in northern Syria. She is the wife of the artist Salim Sabry, her daughter, the artist Yara Sabry, and her daughter’s husband, the artist Maher Salibi.

From the stages of Aleppo theaters, Sanaa Debsi began her artistic career, which lasted nearly 65 years, since the mid-fifties of the last century, and after moving to the Syrian capital, Damascus, she was one of the founding artists of the launch of the National Theater in Syria in the early sixties, and she played in many theatrical tournaments over many years. .

During her artistic career, the late artist presented many television roles since the early beginnings of Syrian drama, and with the spread that this drama achieved in the Arab world, perhaps the Arab viewer will retain in his memory unforgettable images of the roles of the mother that Thanaa Debsi performed brilliantly, and she left her own mark in many series. Famous ones, such as “Deer in the Forest of Wolves,” “Time of Shame,” and “Behind the Sun.”
