René Ortiz returns to the Ministry of Energy after resignation of José Agusto Briones | Economy | News

Ecuadorian René Ortiz Durán, an oil expert and former Minister of Energy, confirmed to EL UNIVERSO that he had accepted President Lenín Moreno’s proposal to be the new Minister of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources.

The executive decree No. 1014 signed by the chief executive formalized this Monday in the new position to Ortiz Durán.

Ortiz, a long-standing oil analyst, was already Minister of Energy. He describes his new task as “a great challenge.” It is the moment when we all need to close our shoulders, he said.

The appointment was given a few hours after the resignation of José Agusto Briones was confirmed, after four months of management.

Agusto thanked, in his resignation letter, the trust placed in him by the Government and explained that he had health problems that required immediate treatment.

Meanwhile, the new Minister of Energy accredits 25 years of experience in oil, gas and energy. Has also been President of the Association of the Hydrocarbons Industry of Ecuador (AIHE), university professor and General Secretary of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The new minister assumes the same day that the price of crude oil fell to $ 25. (I)
