Removed more than 40 thousand pounds of ground beef | NOW

A company is recalling nearly 43 thousand pounds of products of ground beef because it may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7, said the Service’s Food Safety and Inspection (FSIS) of the u.s. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Saturday.

Products of raw ground beef made by Lakeside Refrigerated Services, a company of Swedesboro, New Jersey, were shipped to retail stores throughout the U.S. The foods were produced on the 1st of June and have the establishment number “EST. 46841” inside the mark of inspection of USDA.

“E. coli 0157:H7 is a bacteria that is potentially deadly that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps for 2 to 8 days (3 or 4 on average) after being exposed to an organism,” said FSIS.

Although most recover in a week, some can develop some type of kidney damage caused by a uremic hemolytic. Some types of E. coli can cause disease by producing Shiga toxin.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that annually there are 265,000 infections caused by these bacteria in the U.S., The E. coli 0157:H7 causes 36% of them.
