Today, Sunday, November 12, is the anniversary of the birth of Marilyn Monroe of the East, the great artist Hend Rostom, who was born on this day in 1931, and shone in the sky of art since she entered the field until she became one of the most important icons in the history of cinema.

Hind Rostom revealed her footballing inclinations, and in a previous interview with Al Kawakib magazine in 1965, the late star narrated a situation that expresses the extent of her love for Zamalek, saying, “I am very Zamalek… I was in Lebanon when Zamalek won one of the matches over Al-AhlyAt that time, my daughter called me on the phone giving me the news, even though it was Ahlawi and I met her saying, “Congratulations, Mama, you have won 3 zero.”

Earlier, Adel Heikal, the former Al-Ahly star, told the story of his foray into acting in a previous interview, saying, “I was friends with Gamal Al-Laithi, Farid Shawqi, and Omar Al-Sharif. We used to meet together and attend matches in the stadium, and when Saleh Selim participated in the movie (The Seven Girls) 1961, he spoke I had the producer Jamal Al-Laithi with me and he offered me an acting experience and I agreed, even though I was not welcomed at first, and when I first went to filming I did not know my role or its size. Jamal Al-Laithi was the one who made me act and convinced me when he said to me, “What do you think of Hind Rostom?” I told him, “Like the moon,” he said. Are you going to meet her fiancé? I told him, “Okay, come to the studio.”

Hend Rostom has presented up to 100 of the most famous films in Egyptian cinema. Among Hend’s most prominent characters remain “Hanoma” in Bab al-Hadid, “Toha” in the film “Toha” with Mohsen Sarhan directed by Hassan Al-Saifi, and “Tameh” in the film “Ismail.” Yasin in the Insane Hospital” and Aziza in “Ibn Hamido” with Ahmed Ramzy.

In 1979, the artistic career of a star who loved the cinema screen ended, as Hind Rostom retired from art while she was at the height of her stardom, out of respect for the wishes of her husband, Dr. Mohamed Fayyad, whom she married after her divorce from director Hassan Reda.
