Remembering Gernot Hain: Wiener Neustadt Mourns the Loss of a Respected Lawyer and Community Leader

Mourning for a real Wiener Neustadt lawyer: Gernot Hain died at the age of 86. “He was a courteous, loving and valuable person,” remembers lawyer Martin Schober, who also used to work with him.

Gernot Hain was primarily a great in contract and insolvency law. He worked as a liquidator in the insolvencies of the Hotel Panhans am Semmering and the electronics giant Stöhr, among others.

The lawyer was also known for his work at Wiener Neustädter Sparkasse: from 1998 to 2011 he was president of the savings bank council. “For 38 years, Gernot Hain was jointly responsible for fulfilling the social mission of the Wiener Neustädter Sparkasse in various functions. With him, the largest financial institution in the region has lost a deserving official and friend of the Sparkasse,” the bank said in a statement.

Mayor Klaus Schneeberger: “With Gernot Hain, Wiener Neustadt is losing a very deserving personality who, both as a lawyer and in his role as President of the Sparkasse Association, has achieved a lot of positive things in the city and will therefore leave his mark. Our condolences go out to his survivors.”

Gernot Hain was awarded, among other things, the “Golden Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austria” and the “Great Savings Bank Pin”.
