The exit restrictions are also lifted. The Dresden city festival is postponed. “The Saxons have worked hard to loosen things up through their solidarity,” said Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (44, CDU) on Wednesday evening.

Shortly before, the cabinet had decided on a number of first easing measures for the Free State. Further relief will follow on May 4th. One thing is certain: retailers can open again, but not malls.

All shops that are no larger than 800 square meters will be open from Monday. Each customer must be given sufficient distance from the next. Specifically, this requires a free area of 20sqm per customer.

If this is not possible, as in small shops, the next customer has to wait in front of the door, said Economics Minister Martin Dulig (46, SPD), who also praises the citizens: “This is a success of reason.”

According to Agriculture Minister Wolfram Günther (46, Greens), the DIY megastores with garden centers are allowed to open from Monday no matter how big! Please note the existing ban on contacts. So only families with a maximum of five people or a single person with one (!) Other person may be on the move.

“Because there is still no vaccine, the virus is still fatal,” emphasizes Kretschmer. Against this background, the state government also wants the ban on all major events until August 31 to be understood. This particularly affects the city festival from August 14th to 16th. According to the organizers, it will be moved to the period from October 2 to October 4.

Services are also not permitted for the time being. However, Kretschmer announced a solution for “small services” and devotions until Friday.

It is already clear that support and vocational schools will open again on Monday. But there is no teaching, not even for the 10th grades of high schools.

Instead, the teachers prepare for exams. Consultations are available for high school graduates whose exams begin on April 22nd. In this context, the Saxon Teachers’ Association warned that the protection of teachers is also important.

Minister of Culture Christian Piwarz (44, CDU) promised: “Strict hygiene and distance rules apply to teachers and students when conducting exams and preparing for exams.”

But trouble is brewing behind the scenes. According to a director from Dresden, TAG24 says that no headmaster knows how to start school again from Monday. Piwarz promised that handouts would follow.

On the other hand, there is clarity on the printed education front: the libraries and archives will soon be able to open again, as will book stores. And at VW in Zwickau, production will start again on April 20, and the engine plant in Chemnitz has been starting up this Tuesday. The Transparent Factory follows.
