Relatively many people have been infected at school and work

Relatively many people have contracted the coronavirus at school or at work. These have become important ‘settings of infections’, according to weekly figures from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment on the status of the corona outbreak.

The source of infection is not known for all people who test positive for the coronavirus. For example, there are people who do not know where and how they contracted the virus. The ‘setting of infection’ has been established in three in ten people who tested positive last week.

More than half of the new cases for which the source is known have been infected at home, at the hands of a housemate or family member. Visiting each other led to 14 percent of cases.

In about 14 percent of the people, the infection could be traced to a school or childcare. That’s similar to last week. Of all the people who tested positive since the beginning of August, the school or daycare was the source in 10 percent of the cases.

After education, the work situation follows: about 8 percent of the people there have become infected. That percentage is similar to last week, but above the level since early August. Parties such as birthdays, drinks and weddings led to a corona infection more often than in previous weeks.
