Reins in parts of the US tightened again after an increase in corona infections

The White House held another corona paper conference today for the first time since April 27. Despite the numbers, Vice President Mike Pence, who is also chairman of the Corona Task Force, was also optimistic.

“We have made tremendous progress in helping our country,” he said. “We slowed down the spread. We flattened the curve. We saved lives.”

According to Pence, the situation is different now than it was two months ago. For example, the country is now much better prepared, he said. “We are ready to expand capacity and support healthcare.”

Pence does emphasize that Americans must adhere to the rules and listen to instructions from local authorities. “Now is the time for everyone to do their bit, because as you can see from the numbers, we have a lot of work to do.”

“More testing means more infections”

Pence dedicates the increase in the number of infections to the fact that more is being tested. Experts disagree. They say the increase is due to easing and reopening of borders. Americans are also less likely to adhere to the rules.

The virus has been diagnosed in 2.3 million people in the US, but the US public health institution CDC reports to news agency AP that the actual number of infections is estimated to be ten times higher. That would mean about 6 percent of the U.S. population has had the virus.
