Regional and departmental: after Rennes la rose, Rennes la verte… – Departmental elections in Ille-et-Vilaine

In the Breton capital, environmentalists appear to be winners of this first round of regional and departmental in a context of record abstention (65%).

At the regional level, the list of Claire Desmares-Poirier (EELV) comes six points ahead of that of the socialist Loïg Chesnais-Girard (26% / 20% partial results). The duo is far ahead of Thierry Burlot (13.5%), the candidate of the presidential majority, running mate of Carole Gandon, the leader of the LRM group in town hall and the MEP Marie-Pierre Vedrenne. The mayor of Vitré, Isabelle Le Callennec, candidate LR, obtains the fourth place (11%).

With 8.5% of the La France rebellious list, the left-wing anchorage of the Breton capital stands at nearly 55% of Rennes’ votes cast in the regions. However, it is the predominance of “green” sensibility which takes the place of the main lesson of this election.

With 26%, the EELV list of Desmares-Poirier is, in%, on the basis of the green votes from Rennes recorded in the first round of the last municipal elections (Theurier list) or to 2019 Europeans (Jadot list). Tonight’s result appears to be clearly dynamic compared to the regional ones of 2015 (13%) and 2010 (17.9%).

The 7.7% obtained by Daniel Cueff, the former mayor of Langouët, an independent eco-candidate for the regionals, consolidates the green sensitivity to 34% of the Rennes votes cast.

At the departmental level, five environmental candidates qualified in the second round in the six cantons of Rennes. In four of them, they will face a socialist opponent. So many interesting duels between two allied formations within the City and the Metropolis… and soon in the Department. Three communities, three socialist strongholds that environmentalist dynamics are eroding, election after election.

Unpublished in their configuration and their schedule, the two polls tonight have nevertheless confirmed a persistence: Rennes has once again asserted itself as one of the major cities in France that is the most reluctant to the National Gathering.

Led by Gilles Pennelle, Marine Le Pen’s party obtains 7.9%. This is three points less than in 2015.
