Brugge“Fantastic!” Regi didn’t have another word for his first live show in over a year. Together with Camille, Jaap Reesema and Olivia, he played one big hit after another on the beach of Zeebrugge. Not only was the location unique, it was also the first time that Regi played his biggest hit ever – ‘Kom Wat Dichterbij’ – live in front of an audience. We were there.

A series of concerts on the beach that is part of Zeebrugge Beach 2021: that is GRID.LIVE. On Wednesday evening, Regi was allowed to give the symbolic kick-off. For Flanders’ most famous DJ/musician, it was the start of his summer tour. But that is not everything. “It’s my first live show in 1.5 years,” Regi told us just before his performance. “So yes, I have quite a bit of healthy stress. Especially because I scored a lot of hits in that time. With ‘Kom Wat Dichterbij ” even my biggest ever. It’s still mind-blowing how successful that song is. You can’t believe how excited I am to perform. Even though there were 10 people here, we finally want to play again.”

Best audience in two years
When entering the stage it quickly became clear that there were a lot more people present. “Even though the weather is not quite with us,” says Barbara Soens of the organization. “With radiant summer weather, a lot of extra tickets would probably have been sold.” As a visitor, however, you won’t feel the harsh wind once you’re inside the impressive tent construction, even heating is provided.

But back to Regi now. About 700 fans, young and old, went crazy when the first hits popped out of the speakers. First ‘Ellie’ together with Jaap Reesema, who also played his biggest hit ‘Alles Komt Goed’, then with Olivia. And then Camille had to come. The party was complete. It was especially so when Regi took a walk through the audience and sang a song herself. The hundreds of fans tried to catch a glimpse of the DJ from their bubble and decorate a photo. “What a fantastic audience you are. The best in two years,” joked the sympathetic Limburger.

Grateful
That audience was especially happy that they could finally enjoy a performance again. At the end of the show, Regi, Camille, Olivia, Jaap Resema and newcomer Steven – who filled in for Niels Destadsbader – received a standing ovation. A deep bow was their thanks. Regi was visibly relieved to finally be able to play his greatest hits live in front of an audience. “The setting here on the beach of Zeebrugge is also beautiful,” he says. “We will not experience a normal summer yet. But this is a start. We are very grateful that we can do this. Everything will be fine,” concluded Regi, who had such a successful start to his summer tour.

In the coming weeks, Raymond Van Het Groenewoud and De Mens (21/07), De Kreuners (04/08), Bart Peeters and the Ideale Mannen (11/08) and Metejoor (date to be determined) will also come to Zeebrugge, which has a lot to offer this summer.
