Due to strict travel restrictions between Canada and the United States, the Montreal football team has played its opening seven home games of this year’s MLS season in Florida and New Jersey.
But now the club has been given the go-ahead to return home to Canada to train and soon they will be able to play their home matches there as well.
But there is a requirement. Players and leaders must be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus to cross the border.

“He was not comfortable”
One who refused the vaccine was the team’s striker Erik Hurtado. The American was therefore exchanged last night for the Columbus Crew.
– There has been interest in Erik in recent weeks and we have listened to offers, even though we have been satisfied with his work. His situation was problematic and we started considering a transfer when we received confirmation that the team could return to Montreal, as he was unvaccinated against covid-19. Before we completed the deal, Erik also confirmed that he was not comfortable taking vaccines, so we completed the deal, says the club’s sports director Oliver Renard in a statement.
Hurtado came to Montreal as a free transfer in February this year and did not score a goal in seven appearances.
