Red Sox with two new COVID-19 cases, going 11 in just over a week

The COVID-19 list continues to grow for the Boston Red Sox, and Sunday’s starter Nick Pivetta did so earlier in the day.

Plus, backup Danny Santana also made the list on Sunday, meaning Boston has put 11 players on the list in about a week.

Pivetta was supposed to face Cleveland at 1 p.m. ET at Fenway Park. Instead, the Red Sox called up Triple-A Worcester right-hander Kutter Crawford to make the start.

The 28-year-old Pivetta is 9-7 with a 4.67 ERA in 26 starts. Crawford, 25, is making his first major league appearance.

Santana is hitting .168 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 35 games. The Red Sox called out outfielder Franchy Cordero to take his place.

The Red Sox start the day in third place in the AL East, eight games behind the Tampa Bay Rays. But they are only half a game behind the Yankees, who own the first wild card. Boston has a four-game lead over Seattle for the second wild card.
