Red flag on first working day of coastal rescuers

The first working day of the rescuers on our coast has been quieter than expected. There was a lot of people by the sea, but it was not beach weather. In the afternoon, even the red flag was raised during a heavy rain shower.

The beautiful weather of the past few days made many day trippers dream of a summer weekend by the sea. Unfortunately, it was not real beach weather. On the beach there were a lot less people than earlier this week. It was quite busy in the shopping streets of Ostend and on the seawall.

There was a queue at the go-cart rental companies. “This is of course ideal for us. There is a lot of people on the coast, and they are looking for alternatives to the beach, ”says Anne Boonefases of Nico Fun on Wheels in Ostend.

For the rescuers, it was less busy on their first working day. When a heavy rainstorm and strong wind appeared in the afternoon, the red flag was even raised. It is forbidden to swim. When some children ventured into the water near the Kursaal, the rescue service had to intervene. However, there were no major problems.
