Red Cross calls this weekend to Almeria to donate infant food products

The people of Almeria have a new opportunity this weekend to show their solidarity. It will be, this time, for the little ones. The Red Cross is dedicating the month of December to the ‘Donate changes everything’ campaign, which this year celebrates its IX edition; a solidarity initiative that consists of collecting food and children’s hygiene products, which are the most necessary to provide social, humanitarian and dignified care to the most vulnerable families and groups that this organization serves.

The products with which you can collaborate in this initiative are diapers, starter milk, baby food, cookies, pasta, legumes, rice … In addition to the aforementioned products, the Red Cross also recommends donating children’s cereals, olive oil, sugar, jam , cocoa cream, juice and smoothies, whole or semi-skimmed milk, wipes, swabs, talcum powder, sponges, gel, shampoo, baby cologne, cocoa powder or all kinds of preserves. Products, in short, that will help the institution to complete care for families in dire need.

In Almería, it is planned that the collection in large areas will be carried out intensively on December 18 and 19 in the different supermarkets where there will be Red Cross volunteers waiting for those who wish to contribute their grain of sand and join the this campaign in favor of vulnerable groups. Specifically, it will take place in the Carrefour de Almería, El Ejido, Roquetas de Mar and Vícar; in the Alcampo de Almería; at the Mercadona in Mojácar; in Consum de Mojácar, Huércal-Overa and Vera; in the Lidl de Garrucha; and in the AMA DE Roquetas de Mar.

For this reason, the Red Cross has launched a provincial appeal to the Almeria society to be in solidarity since “the situation we live in this pandemic makes aid more necessary than ever, especially that intended for the most vulnerable children,” he acknowledges the provincial president of the Spanish Red Cross in Almería, Antonio Alastrué. They are therefore essential “the commitment and generosity of each person because a small gesture such as donating some food or child product is a great help to families who need it so much,” adds the head of the institution in Almería.

Families in critical situation

Last year, thanks to the solidarity of the people of Almería with this campaign, a total of 1,200 families received food and the children’s needs of 1,464 children throughout the province were attended to. Around 150 volunteers from the eight assemblies throughout the Almeria geography have turned to this initiative in which, in addition, companies and institutions have participated.

This campaign of the Almería Red Cross “has always been well received by Almeria society,” explains Antonio Alastrué, who is hopeful that “this edition will continue to be so supportive since, due to Covid-19, they have increased by considerably people in critical situations and we are caring for families who never thought to go through difficulties and resort to the help of the Red Cross »
