Germany strengthens’corona blockade’… EU decides to approve vaccine on the 21st | Voice of America

Germany has started implementing high-intensity “blockade” measures starting today (16th) to block the spread of the novel coronavirus ahead of Christmas and New Years.

This measure will last until January 10 of next year, and during this period, most businesses, except for essential stores such as supermarkets and banks, will have to close.

Schools were also temporarily closed.

Germany has introduced partial blockades, such as closing pubs and restaurants since November, but recently tightened restrictions as the corona spread did not stop.

On the day of the blockade, Germany’s daily new death toll was 952, the highest ever.

In a media interview on the same day, German Health Minister Jens Spann urged the European Union (EU) to approve the use of a corona vaccine jointly developed by US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and German Bioentech before Christmas Day.

It is reported that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) will hold a meeting on the 21st and decide whether to approve the use of the’Pfizer vaccine’.

Earlier, authorities in the U.S., UK and Canada approved emergency use of the Pfizer-Bioentech corona vaccine.
