50,700 new infections were reported in the US on Wednesday. The country has regularly been above 40,000 new infections per day for a week. Those are clearly higher numbers than the provisional peak of the country’s pandemic in April and May. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 2.6 million people have been infected in the US, at least 128,000 people have succumbed to the effects of the corona virus.
The day record was also broken yesterday. Then 47,000 new infections were counted. The country’s leading infectious disease expert, virologist Anthony Fauci, warned earlier this week that the numbers could even double quickly. “We are clearly not in control now,” he said.

States, meanwhile, are taking new measures in an effort to contain the virus. In California, large parts of the state have to be locked again after a record increase in the number of corona infections. The relaxation of the measures is being reversed for the people of Los Angeles and surrounding areas, and in 18 other hard-hit regions. The new lockdown applies for at least three weeks.
Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Florida and Texas, among others, also announced measures. In New York City, the number of infections has decreased considerably, but the mayor postpones the re-admission of customers in restaurants for longer.
Trump has “no problem” with masks
President Trump also seems to understand the seriousness of the situation. That is evident from his words in an interview with TV channel Fox Business. If he finds himself in a situation where he cannot keep his distance from people, he would wear a mask, the president said.
Trump has so far not shown himself in public with a mouth mask, rather stating that he did not want the media to have that fun, but he assured Wednesday that he has “no problem” wearing one and it even has already done. “I liked how I looked,” he said. “It was a dark black mask.” But most of the time, he is not in a situation where no distance can be kept “and everyone has been tested”. The president does not consider an obligation of masks to be necessary.
In the interview, he stated that he still believes that the virus will disappear at some point. “And I think we will also have a vaccine soon. We come back very strongly. And we will be very good with the corona virus. ”
