Record 12.075.3 Million Euro Allocation for Social Security Pensions in October 2023

In this month of October, Social Security allocated the record figure of 12,075.3 million euros to the payment of the ordinary monthly payroll of contributory pensions, 10.9% more than in the same month of 2022, as reported this Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. And that, in Ourense, the average pension does not reach 900 euros.

The ordinary monthly pension payroll exceeded 12,000 million euros for the first time in July and this month it once again sets a new record. This is due to the fact that, in application of the pension reform, these have increased by 8.5% by 2023 as a result of the average inflation of the period December 2021-November 2022.

The Department headed by José Luis Escrivá estimates that pension spending stood at 11.6% of GDP in the last twelve months, below that of 2022 (11.7% of GDP), 2021 (12.1% of GDP) and 2020 (12.4% of GDP), a year conditioned by the impact of the pandemic on GDP.

Of the 12,075.3 million euros that were dedicated in October to the ordinary payroll of contributory pensions, almost three quarters (73%) were allocated to the payment of retirement pensions, which totaled 8,816 million euros, 11.7% more than in October of last year.

2,008 million euros were allocated to widow’s pensions, almost 9.4% more than a year ago, while 1,056 million euros were allocated to permanent disability benefits (+7.5%).

For its part, the payment of orphan benefits involved an amount of 163.3 million (+9%), and benefits for family members totaled 31.9 million euros (+12%).

The system’s average pension amounts to 1,197.3 euros per month. This amount includes the different types of pension (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and in favor of relatives).

The system’s average retirement pension, for its part, is 1,377.2 euros. By regime, the average retirement pension from the General Regime is 1,533.6 euros per month, while the lowest is recorded by the Self-Employed Regime, 917.1 euros/month. In Coal Mining, the average monthly retirement amount is 2,685.9 euros, and it is 1,526.9 euros in the Sea Regime. The average amount of new retirement registrations in the system rose in the month of September from 2023 (latest data) to 1,472.5 euros per month.

Almost three quarters of the contributory pension payroll for October correspond to retirement pensions, specifically, 73%, that is, 8,816 million euros. 2,008.1 million euros have been allocated to widow’s pensions, while the payroll for permanent disability benefits amounts to 1,056 million, orphanhood benefits, 163.3 million euros, and benefits for family members, 31. .9 million.
