Recognize Alzheimer’s Dementia Through Early Detection

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The world commemorates World Alzheimer’s Day Alzheimer Worldwide on this day or every September 21.

This year, Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) has a global theme of Knowing Alzheimer’s: The Importance of a Timely Diagnosis. Early detection. This theme emphasizes the importance of someone entering old age to do early detection.

Alzheimer’s dementia is a disorder that decreases brain functions such as memory, emotion, behavior, decision making, and decreased communication skills. Alzheimer’s generally occurs when entering old age.

ADI estimates that there are 1.2 million people with dementia in Indonesia (ODD). This figure is predicted to increase to 4 million people in 2050.

Currently one in 10 people over the age of 65 has Alzheimer’s disease. In fact, every three seconds an elderly person is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive and incurable degenerative disease, but its progression can be slowed.

Therefore, early detection is important. Early detection can be done by screening brain function when symptoms appear related to Alzheimer’s dementia. Brain function screening can be done at the nearest hospital.

“Early detection checks are the first step for someone to be able to maintain their brain function so it doesn’t decrease drastically,” said Alzheimer Indonesia in a press statement received by CNNIndonesia.com.

Here are the signs of Alzheimer’s to watch out for:

  • signs like senile
  • forgot the way home
  • communication disorders that interfere with daily activities

If you, your parents, or your loved ones show these signs, see a doctor immediately and do early detection of Alzheimer’s.
