Reception of 700,000 doses of “AstraZeneca” vaccine at the end of February

Ms. Wahiba Hadjoudj, Director General of Pharmacy and Medial Equipment at the Ministry of Health, announced this Sunday, February 7, 2021, that Algeria would receive other batches of the British vaccine AstraZeneca at the end of the month of February, ie between 700,000 and 800,000 doses, as part of the UN Covax system.

Indeed, Mrs. Wahiba Hadjoudj explained, during a study day at the National People’s Congress on vaccination, that a meeting had been organized with representatives of the Covax device on January 27.

The Minister of Health and Hospital Reform, Abderrahmane Benbouzid, confirmed that the low rate of infections and the number of beds in intensive care rooms testify to the efficiency of the health system in Algeria.

Mr. Benbouzid added that the Algerian state has put in place the appropriate conditions to fight the epidemic, because all the necessary health institutions have been mobilized, indicating that Algeria currently has 82 laboratories qualified to diagnose the Covid -19 by PCR tests, which contributed to the recording of positive results.

The minister also called on citizens to the need to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, in order to return to normal life, indicating that Algeria has started negotiations with several international companies that manufacture the vaccine in order to provide it to citizens and ensure the necessary quantities.

As a reminder, Algeria will obtain more than 2.2 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, as part of the Covax device which currently provides that 1.2 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be available in the first quarter of 2021, subject to the conclusion of additional agreements.
