Japanese experts pointed out that the recent major earthquake on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture expanded the coastline by 175 meters.

A research team from Hiroshima University investigated the ground displacement and tsunami wave effects caused by the earthquake. They compared photos taken from high altitude after the earthquake, covering about 50 kilometers of coastline in the northeastern part of the Noto Peninsula. They found that the earthquake caused the ground to rise in almost all areas, with the land area Expanding to 2.4 square kilometers, in some ports on the northern shore of the peninsula, the sea water almost disappears.

The research team also pointed out that the tsunami rushed into the interior of Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture that day, and the water level in some areas was as high as about 3 meters.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism recently stated that according to images taken by helicopters, at least 100 hectares of land in two cities in Ishikawa Prefecture were once swallowed up by a tsunami after the earthquake.
