Rebekka Timmer is the new chairman of political party Bij1, report NRC in The Parool† 74 percent of members supported her candidacy at the general meeting today, although the selection committee issued a negative advice about her possible chairmanship.

Timmer is the successor to Jursica Mills. who stepped over a week ago as chairman of Bij1. According to her, the party was full of “toxicity, favoritism and contradictions”. With the loss of Mills, Timmer no longer had any opponents.

In the parliamentary elections, Timmer was third on Bij1’s list. She is now an employee of party leader Sylvana Simons in the House. However, the selection committee did not consider her suitable for the position of party chairman: “Rebekah has made it clear that she has a specific vision for the course of the party and wishes to follow this course as chairman of the party board”, the negative advice states.

“The emphasis on the importance of vision over the importance of working together and reaching consensus within the national government can greatly complicate processes within the upcoming national government.” In addition, the selection committee paid too little attention to Timmer for practical administrative tasks that come with the chairmanship.

The Amsterdam branch of Bij1 also turned against Timmer’s candidacy. Several other members did support Timmer. That was one of the reasons for her departure from resigned chairman Mills: “If less well-known members get a negative advice, they’re okay with that. But with Rebekah, people are going to take action,” she said. in Het Parool.
