Reasons for the Price of Bio Farma PCR Equipment Dropped from Rp325 Thousand to Rp90 Thousand

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

PT Bio Farma (Persero) discloses the price of tools PCR test owned by the company will decrease from around Rp. 325 thousand in August 2020 to Rp. 90 thousand per kit before tax in October 2021. This price decline can occur if there is an increase in production capacity.

“This price is imposed with the hope that demand will increase and Bio Farma can optimize its production capacity of up to 5 million tests per month,” said Bio Farma President Director Honesti Basyir during a hearing with Commission VI DPR at the DPR/MPR Building, Tuesday (9/9). /11).

Currently, the production of PCR kits at Bio Farma ranges from 1.2 million to 2 million kits per month. However, the company is trying to increase production to 5 million kits per month.

Apart from being supported by increased production, he claimed that price reductions were also possible because there were innovations in PCR test kits starting from the mBioCov to the newest BioSaliva.

“So the market began to demand and the needs began to increase,” he added.

Even so, according to his explanation, currently the PCR kit price is actually still valid at Rp. 193,000 per kit, including taxes. This current price, also known as the e-catalog price, has been in effect since February 2021.

“The price of the e-catalog that is still running is still IDR 193,000 including VAT, which has been broadcast since February 2021, and is currently in the process of submitting a new price of IDR 89,100 including tax,” he explained.

Furthermore, the price of the PCR kit is one of the components that make up the price structure of the PCR test from Bio Farma as a whole. This price is included in the components of production costs and raw materials, which account for 55 percent of the total PCR price structure.

The rest is operational costs of around 16 percent of the total price of PCR tests, 14 percent distribution costs, 5 percent royalties, and 10 percent profit for the company.
