Real Madrid Defeats Girona 3-0 to Top Spanish League Standings

Girona

Real Madrid beat Girona 3-0 in the eighth week of the Spanish League this season. These results took Carlo Ancelotti’s team to the top of the standings.

Visiting the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, Saturday (30/9/2023) early morning WIB, Girona almost took the lead quickly in the 4th minute if Viktor Tsygankov’s header didn’t hit the goal post. In the 16th minute, Eric Garcia’s header was saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

However, it was Madrid who succeeded in opening the lead first in the 17th minute. Jude Bellingham’s low cross into the penalty box was met by Joselu with a measured shot.

Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga managed to ward it off, but the ball continued to roll into the goal. Four minutes later, Los Blancos successfully doubled their lead.

Toni Kroos’ free kick was met by Aurelien Tchouameni with a header into the left corner of the goal which Gazzaniga again failed to save. Score 2-0 closed the first half.

In the second half, Girona again tried to break through Madrid. David Lopez had a golden chance in the 50th minute, but his header was blocked by Kepa. In fact, the hosts conceded again in the 71st minute.

Starting from Joselu’s hard shot which Gazzaniga managed to parry, the striker then took back the ball and sent it to Bellingham who then scored with a first time shot.

Madrid played with 10 men after Nacho was sent off by the referee in injury time for his hard tackle on Cristian Portu. This situation caused a commotion between the two teams, with Antonio Rudiger and Cristhian Stuani receiving yellow cards.

However, the 3-0 score remained until the end. This result means Madrid has collected 21 points while shifting Barcelona from the top of the standings. Meanwhile, Girona dropped to third with 19 points.
